COS has come to Montreal! The big-sister from the H&M family is minimal, sleek and grown up.
I had the pleasure of attending the opening and got to check out the clothes in person. There was a lot of oversized knits (oversized everything really), smooth lines, and fairly androgynous offerings. There were a few fitted pieces but the vast majority were loose and large. Patterns were minimal with only the odd polka-dot here and there. There was a lot of sweaters (some were fitted), and clothing in wool, silk and jersey on display. I could see a lot of the clothes in an office but there was definitely some that I felt comfortable wearing at home too. And yes, there’s a men’s section.
I’ve always had trouble buying dresses as I’m somewhat tall (5’7″) but a size small and everything always comes up short on me. COS is (finally) the exception and I found all the dresses had ample length.
There is a lot of black but there are spots of colour including wonderful coral, green and mustard. The fabrics are much nicer than H&M and the price point is as also higher. My friend remarked that it seemed nearly everything was $135. The coats came in around the $290 mark.
These were some of my favourite picks and I chose them because I remembered seeing them in the store. There is a lot more in store than on their website. I bought a textured jersey dress which I LOVE and I will be able to wear around the house as well as out. I didn’t see it online, so you’ll have to find it in store.
Do you know COS already? What do you think?

Just wanted to tell you that I love your blog! I’m moving to Montréal next month, from sunny South Africa. Reading your blog has been such a help and a huge source of info on having kids (three that are three and under) in Montreal. Thank you!
Oh wow! Thanks so much for the kind words! I hope you have a good move and let me know when you make it to Montreal (and I hope it’s not too too cold… be mentally prepared!)
