After a summer away and in-house time with the baby there are so many restaurants I want to enjoy right now in Montreal. These are just a few that I’d love to try.
Soubois (Downtown) – 1106 Maisonneuve Blvd W
What struck me first about this new resto was the amazing interior designed to look like an underground forest. However, there are so many concepts that I am loving on top of the cool interior – products from our great boreal forests via Provender, 1800 bottles in the cellar picked by Elyse Lambert, Canadian Master Sommelier in 2015, renowned mixologists (Nectar, Joe Beef, Bremner alumni), art installations, murals, and yes… it turns into a club care of a cutting edge audiovisual system. Girls night OUT.
Salmigondis (Little Italy) – 6896 rue Saint-Dominique
I never eat out in Little Italy but I should and this may make me head over there and battle for parking. Someone told me it was great, and then someone else and now I know I need to go.
Wilfrid sur Laurier (Mile End) – 222 ave Laurier Ouest
Do you remember Brunoise? I do, it was amazing and we were all so sad when it closed. Anyone else wistfully remember the vanilla panna cotta with basil syrup and fresh passion fruit? Sigh. The same chef is back at this restaurant (I don’t know if the menu includes the panna cotta though) and the reviews look great. Count me in!
Restaurant Doca (Griffintown) -1059 rue Wellington
From the team behind such top Montreal restaurants such as Da Emma and Cafe Ferreira this Mediterranean market cuisine restaurant looks top notch.
Provisions (Outremont) – 1268 ave Van Horne
I actually ate here and it was FANTASTIC. Highly recommended for a fun original menu, great service and awesome cocktails. Seating is limited so try and reserve.
Les Fillettes (Outremont) – 1226 ave Van Horne
Great reviews, a beautiful terrace and friends who seem to adore this place… It all sounds just lovely.
Tacos in St-Henri (St-Henri) – Notre Dame Ouest
My friend mentioned that tacos were taking over Notre-Dame and she wasn’t wrong. Café Frida and Tacos Victor both look pretty amazing and I’m not sad about having to try out both to decide which I like best. Also, I got a menu for Café Rosa de Lima on my windshield one day. They are also on Notre-Dame, and they are pretty heavy on the Mexican as well. All to be sampled. Do ten month old’s eat tacos?
L’Gros Luxe (St-Henri) – Notre Dame Ouest
The guys behind popular Mile-End and Plateau spots L’Gros Luxe have opened up a St-Henri location. It’s not opened for lunch during the week, but they do a weekend brunch. Yesssssss! Can’t wait to try it out.
Other places? Damas, Lili.Co and Thazard are also on my radar. It seems for all the St-Henri/Griffintown hype, it’s still Mile End and Outremont that are churning out many of the new and notables.
Am I missing any restaurants? Have you tried any of these and loved them? Do you have any recommendations for me?
