Father’s Day always seems like such a trudge when thinking of a gift but really it shouldn’t be. From cool products to gestures of love, these are some of my favourite way to celebrate the amazing fathers who are so involved in our children’s lives. Whether it’s long walks with the stroller, toting baby around in the carrier, or running after our crazy kids in the park, todays dads are pretty darn cool.
Subscription to Preservation Society (Montreal based)
Because… starting your day with Pink Grapefruit-Honey Marmalade or snacking on some Malty Beer Pickled Carrots from local preservers Preservation Society is a joy.
Coureur des Bois t-shirt from Bonnetier (Montreal)
Because… these locally designed, locally made clever t-shirts will be beautiful for years.
Handcrafted Shoe Shine Kit from Shoe Shine Kits (Victoria, BC)
Because…. he likes his shoes shiny and that plastic bag he’s been keeping his kit in needs an upgrade.
Mark’s Barbados Style Hot Sauce (Montreal)
Because… some like it hot and he’s always up for adding to his hot sauce collection.
Because…. it’s Chewie. And you might hate it, but at least he’ll have a Halloween costume. And hopefully he will only wear it in house. To amuse the kids. Hopefully.
Cocktail Syrups and Tonics from Les Charlatans (Montreal)
Because… these cocktail syrups are locally made and are going to take his cocktail game to the next level. (Canadians can buy here)
Homemade Meal
Because…. all year you avoid making his favourite meal/dessert/whatever because you don’t like it. Personally, I find meatloaf to be a bit boring but my husband loves it (and I may try this recipe shown above). For Father’s Day, I suppose I can make an exception.
Maximum Henry Bifold Wallet in Chestnut from Frank & Oak (Montreal)
Because… his wallet is falling apart at the seams. If he’s not up for a wallet, basically anything from Frank & Oak’s website will probably do… it’s the unofficial clothier of nearly every Montreal man.
Night at the Restaurant
Because… all he wants is a quiet night out at his favourite restaurant with his favourite person.
Sixpacker Classic Bike Basket from Cargo & Co (Montreal)
Because… the milk crate needs an upgrade. This stylish box will let him stand out from the crowd and would be great for a ton of other uses.
Four Cheese Home Cheese-Making Kit from U Main (Montreal)
Because…. making cheese is surprisingly easy with this kit (Mozzarella, Ricotta, Paneer and Queso Blanco) and a very cool project.
Nicolas Bag for MacBook from Cantin (Montreal)
Because… he needs to think about upgrading from that old black nylon number and these locally made bags are GORGEOUS.
SONOSBecause… he wants to listen to his tunes anywhere (even the bathroom) and this allows streaming from iTunes, online music or even Internet radio. Amazing.
Vlad tie by Swell Fellow (Montreal)
Because… he’s a fashionable guy who could use an update in the neck ware department. Ties are mostly boring, these are not.
Leave Sleeve in Chalet Brown from Lajoie (Montreal)
Because… he’s an international jet setter and this passport holder keeps his passport, boarding pass and some cash within close reach.
Because… it looks impressively cool and makes the perfect cup of coffee, which, lets face it, is a necessary for 5:30 am wake ups.
Groom Trial Kit from Groom (Montreal)
Because… he likes to look good and these cool looking products will look great around the sink.
