Sometimes I get caught up writing posts on the latest and greatest and miss those restaurants I love in my own backyard. Azar is one of those restaurants. Located in NDG on Sherbrooke, this restaurant offers solid Lebanese food in a BYOW format.
We started going here ages ago, and we were always impressed by the freshness of the food. Now, with the baby, we just order the food to go. Unfortunately, they don’t have delivery so one of us runs down and picks it up. We always order the machawi for $22 per person. We get more than enough food for ourselves, baby and maybe lunch the next day. I absolutely adore their fattoush salad which has smoky crunchy pita, and just the right amount of sourness. Another hit is the baba ganoush which is so smoky and lovely.
We’ve also been for brunch which is nothing out of the ordinary, but is great if you are looking for a quiet place to go where you won’t be waiting in line.
Decor: Fairly average. If you are looking for some place cutting edge… don’t go here.
Service: Well, we usually pick up so I can’t really comment. In the few times I’ve eaten there it was reasonable. It’s really just the husband and wife, so it’s as fast as they can make it.
Price: Good
Good For: Solid, reliable Lebanese food.
Baby Friendly: Yes, although I doubt they have a high chair or change facilities. Our child adores the sour cucumbers from the fattoush salad, the hummous, baba ganoush, pita and their meat!
