Since I’ve been back in Montreal, I’ve actually been craving Aux Vivres which is a vegan restaurant located in Montreal’s Plateau district. I’d been there once before about three years ago and had an absolutely fabulous dinner, and was hoping for the same.
The restaurant itself is fairly large with a light bright feel to it. The waiters were friendly, and quick to serve us with tap water immediately brought to our table.
It looks like they are also offering take away although I didn’t explore this option.
Instead, I went straight for the BLT which was absolutely to die for and which had been lingering in the back of my mind for the last three years. It’s served on either dark bread ($7.50), or with chapati (in a wrap – $10.50) and is with lettuce, tomato, mayo, and coconut which most be smoked or something because it actually tastes like bacon. Honestly, it’s just so good!
We also took a mango lassi which was thick and creamy and tasted of actual mango (instead of mango syrup) which was great.
I have to admit, I haven’t tried much else at Aux Vivres, so perhaps this is a biased review and everything else on the menu could be average. However, I feel safe in saying that if you are passing by and want to stop in you will be presently surprised.
Decor: Light and bright. Casual.
Service: Good, unpretentious and friendly.
Food: The BLT is amazing. I can’t really comment on much else although the place was popular enough which is a good sign.
Price: Good – the most expensive thing on the menu is $14.50
Good For: Lunch with friends. Perhaps a very casual evening meal.
Originally from the prairies and now in Montreal, I love exploring new places, eating great food and modern design. I'm mom of two wild things and paper and cake make me happy.
Photographing your cutie family would make me very happy.
