Books have always been a very important part of my children’s lives. Even at a young age they loved looking at the colours and pictures.
These are the books that stood out for us and I dare say I can probably recite each one of these by heart. We like to do a good mix of English and French to keep things fun.
For the youngest ones: Dear Zoo, La ferme, The Very Hungry Caterpillar, Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See, Goodnight Moon
A little older: Le train de Bastien, I Love You, Little Bear, A Treasury of Curious George, Canada 123, Barnyard Dance
And a little older (2-3): The Little Engine that Could, Le Jour où J’ai Perdu Mes Super Pouvoirs, Where The Wild Things Are, Love You Forever, Chicka Chicka Boom Boom
I’d love to hear what your favourite books for children are! What am I missing?

Hi Michelle! Love your blog… but I can’t help but noticing how similar the content is to A Cup of Jo. http://cupofjo.com/ I read that blog, and I think you do too. I noticed that you’ve been getting a lot of inspiration from it.
Keep up the great work!
Hi Sylvia,
Thanks for reaching out – I love hearing from readers! And thanks so much for the kind words!
Yes, I definitely read Cup of Jo and am inspired by it. I thought it would be wonderful to do something similar, but with my own twist and for more of a Canadian audience. I haven’t found anything in Canada yet that has inspired me in the same way.
I’d love to hear if you have any suggestions for the blog! It’s always fun to hear what readers have to say.
All the best,
Michelle
Michelle,
A little something from the UK for kids:
The Gruffalo and any from the Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler duo and,
The Day the Crayons Quit by Drew Daywalt
I’m going to check out the French selection as Mathilda is in French immersion and needs some en français on her shelf.
Thanks for this!!
Laurie
Laurie,
Thanks so much for your suggestions! I definitely will check out The Gruffalo (I seem to recall reading that one as a kid!?) and the other books.
Wow – that’s fun that Mathilda is in French immersion! It’s so fun how easily little kids pick up languages and do so well switching and understanding both. Check out the French books and let me know what you think!
Enjoy the weekend!
BTW – I ordered the Crayon book and the gruffalo – I can’t wait to read them to the kids and thanks for the suggestions!!
