Café Frida is a new family owned taco joint and small Mexican grocer on Notre-Dame West. They offer a selection of tacos at $2 a pop as well as guacamole, soup and a selection of sodas and drinks.
I tried the chicken, pork and mushroom tacos. My favourite was actually the mushroom and my friend liked her cactus taco as well. The tacos are simple but made with love. We loved the guacamole which was very chunky and fresh and a friend also mentioned that their soup was outstanding. I also enjoyed their horchata.
The joint is small with only four small tables. It’s simple but brightly painted and has a friendly family feel. I brought my own high chair for my ten month old and my son made a pretty big mess but it didn’t seem to ruffle any feathers.
Decor: Simple but bright.
Service: We were actually there before they even opened but they were accommodating and took our order in advance. Service was quick and friendly but there was only one server so as it got busier service slowed slightly. It still wasn’t long.
Prices: Very very affordable. The three of us had tacos, drinks and guacamole and it only came to $20… for the three of us. You really cannot beat that.
Food: Simple but good. Some of the tacos were better than others. Friends in the area have told us that they really love Café Frida for the sides – the guacamole, soup, etc.
Good For: Lunch with a friend.
Baby Friendly: Sort of. The place is small and a stroller would take up quite a bit of room. In fact a couple with a stroller came in, saw how much room the stroller took up, and decided against staying. I doubt there are any change facilities and they did not have a high chair. Having said that, I brought my own chair and food and it all worked out fine.

I’m not positive but it is probably cash only.
