A trip to Australia, or perhaps even a move to Australia, seems just the thing this time of year. I know Canada’s great and all, but man does it get cold. I suppose we can just pretend we are in Australia at Café Melbourne, run by, surprise, two Melbournians – Xavier & Angus.
The café is relaxed and laid back just as you would expect. The Australia-ness isn’t in your face except the bathroom which is a mini shrine to famous Australians.
The coffee is very affordable, and the menu features Australian treats like the jaffle. A jaffle is an Aussie toasted sandwich with crimped edges so you can stick all sorts of saucy stuff in there. I had the Mac Daddy which was so yum – a sandwich stuffed with, yes, mac ‘n cheese.
It would be perfect for our upcoming wintery days.
Check it out and let me know what you think!
Café Melbourne, 4615 Blvd St-Laurent
Decor: Relaxed and laid back.
Service: Friendly and welcoming.
Prices: Very affordable – jaffles are $7.50 and coffee $3.50 (including taxes – it’s an Aussie thing)
Food: The sandwiches are comfort food at it’s best. They will be adding more food in the future including more Aussie stuff.
Good For: Relaxed lunch with friends or on the run.
Baby Friendly: Well, I would say yes because there is a lot of room for strollers but all seating is on high stools which means you are always sitting way above your kid. It’s also all ledge seating except for one small table.
Wonderful Aussie staff; Wonderful food.
A joy to visit
