I’ve been catching up with old friends these past few weeks at various Christmas parties and events and one of the big questions I get asked is, besides how I look so young (lol – JOKES), is what’s going on with the blog.
It made me realize that many of my readers may also be wondering the same thing after fewer and fewer posts.
The short answer is, the blog is still alive. I like writing on it and I know it’s still read.
The long answer is that I only have so many hours. My photography is doing better than I think anyone (and by anyone I mean me) expected and that’s where I’ve been spending my time. I’m too tired to stay up until midnight writing posts. I know how much I can devote to work and I pretty much stick with it. Also, I think the blogging atmosphere has changed. It’s tough chugging out post after post with no sort of comments or feedback. I know people are reading (I can see stats!) but it’s a very lonely road these days. Photography is extremely rewarding for me. I meet people, get to use all my business skills and can grow creatively. I’m lucky that it’s been going so well and I’m loving what I’m doing.
So, that’s it.
And yes, if you are wondering what I’m talking about, I do family and newborn photography. I’m a little bit different, and I think that’s struck a real chord with people. I’m also super excited to be doing some business photography so I can finally team up with so many of the wonderful local businesses I’ve been talking about on the blog over the years. I am really passionate about supporting local business owners and working one on one with so many amazing entrepreneurs really makes my heart sing. I’m so excited to team up with Autumn Wood who is an awesome prop and food stylist, and Lisa Cecchini who is a beyond amazing interior stylist. So pretty much if you’ve got a project, or you cringe every time you look at your social media images – we’ve got you covered.
Lastly, I will be cutting back on my weekend photography sessions. They tended to book up super quickly anyways, but now I imagine they’ll disappear even faster. If you’d like a weekend session, please get in touch sooner rather than later to reserve your spot.
And very very lastly, thank-you. I was touched by how many of you asked about the blog and continue to read even though it’s so slow. I’ll let you in on a secret. I don’t know if it’s like this for every writer, but for me this blog has really been like a public diary. Every time I write a post I think a long time about what I’m writing. I reflect if I’m being true and if what I’m saying is positive. I think this self-reflection has been the impetus for an enormous amount of self growth for me. It really has changed me.
Happy Holidays,
xx Michelle
