I have a couple of phrases that I repeat, sort of like a mantra. They calm me down, make me feel better and allow me to focus.
One phrase which I learned from Jen at Luna Yoga is simply to say ‘let go’. The ‘let’ is on an inhale and the ‘go’ is on an exhale. I repeat this one often – trying to fall asleep at night or when I’m frustrated about a situation I can’t change.
Another one I love is ‘it’s OK to not be OK’. Sometimes I’m not OK. But I often recognize that this simply a symptom like a headache or stomachache. It’s usually because I’m tired or overwhelmed and that in the end once those things have passed I’ll be fine. I repeat the phrase over and over in my head as I walk or feel like crying or when I am just sad and tired. And it helps. A lot.
Other phrases that give me courage:
“Everything will be okay in the end. If it’s not okay, it’s not the end.” – Fernando Sabino
“If you aren’t in over your head, how do you know how tall you are?” – T.S. Elliot
“Be You. You are enough and you are not too much.” – Unknown
“A smooth sea never made a skilled sailor.” – English proverb
Do you have any phrases that help you get through tough times or give you courage?

These are great – thanks for sharing. I especially like the TS Elliot one – I will be tucking that one away for later.
It’s great isn’t it. It reminds me that sometimes it’s OK to be under pressure and a little bit scared about things. If not – how will we grow?
I use the Let Go – although Let it Go in my case, with deep breaths. Really does work.
I’m trying to find my mantra for the new year, I like to have something to keep me focused on my goals. So far the leader is “what lies behind you and what lies in front of you are nothing compared to what lies within you” staying focused on the present and what I love to do.
Love all of yours as well!
It does work doesn’t it – Let (it) go. It’s a good one.
that’s such a good idea to find a mantra to keep focused on goals… I know I always get so sidetracked. I love the mantra you chose! Such a good one. Let me know if you come up with any others!
