Have you heard of a cronut? It’s a croissant-doughnut and is attracting some serious craziness worldwide. It was invented in NYC, and caused such a frenzy that cronuts were selling for $40 a piece on Craigslist. Soon, the cronut spread and it got so crazy that at some places the line up was 8 hours, or $100 for a scalper price (as reported here). Soon versions started popping up everywhere including Dublin, Jakarta, Chicago and…. Montreal.
I saw on a few places including Shut Up and Eat that La Cornetteria started serving cronuts – or Cronetto’s as they call them. Yesterday, I realized I was only one block away when I was reading yet another story about cronuts, so I decided it was time to try it for myself.
La Cornetteria’s Cronetto’s are $4 a piece and max 2 per customer. Mine were filled with custard (I believe?) but the employee said they were going to switch it up in the future with cream, and nutella, etc.
Verdict? I was expecting a croissant shaped like a doughnut filled with custard. I guess I forgot the deep fry bit. It was good, but quite heavy. Hmmm…. perhaps my expectations were too high?
Have you guys had a cronut or the Cronetto??
