I know the world is all about minimalism these days. Buying less, consuming less, working with what we have. I embrace this philosophy whole heartedly, but at one point I really think you just have to refresh. I went out and bought a few basic tops, some new bras and some very basic make up and really… I feel like a million bucks. I threw out all those old ratty bras that were just cluttering up my drawer that didn’t fit anyways, those t-shirts that had holes in them (yes – I wore them to holes) and I have some fresh makeup that I know isn’t expired, doesn’t make my eyes feel crusty, and I know works with my skin tone.
It helps that it’s finally (finally!) sunny out and I also saw a personal trainer (the amazing Maxine) who put together a very simple and doable at home workout plan so I can finally start feeling strong again.
Nothing is a major change, but I was starting to feel a bit depressed that I was looking like a goat herder who had just come from mucking out the barns everyday. Now that I have a few pieces, it’s about working with what I got in my closet but there are a few more pieces I have my eyes on. The trouble is finding the fine line behind that working goat farmer look (which is great on a goat farm – don’t get me wrong – but perhaps not so great for every. single. day. in the city) and too dressed up.
I need clothes that are nice but washable, that I can sit down with in the park and not worry about riding up and showing my bum, that I can sit in the sand with and not worry about a dry cleaning bill or ripping holes. These are surprisingly difficult to find.
Here are a few of my picks:
Bon Matin soft linen tank from Finish the Outfit
Community Ion Pant from Aritzia
Round Necked Sweater from Zara
(although I just know this would be too short on my 5’7″ frame… sigh)
(although I don’t know what the fabric is….)
Butterfly Print Trousers from Oasis
