Alex and I recently visited St-Louis Square in the Plateau area of Montreal.
This is one of Montreal’s iconic squares and there were a few tourists there when we visited. It’s where you’ll find a pretty little café, colourful houses and a nice little fountain.
It does have a bit of an urban vibe and there are a few homeless people permanently camped out there. Also, if you are planning to stay I think your best bet is maybe to run and explore around a bit with the kids and then have a drink at the cafe. This is really a square – not a park – and there is no playground equipment. As well, at the time of writing (end of May 2016) the grass was all cordoned off so a picnic or play on the grass isn’t so great.
Parking was easy and on a 9:30am on a Friday I had plenty of paid parking choice. It’s also near a metro. It would be great if you were exploring the Plateau or nearby St-Denis and wanted to visit an iconic Montreal area as part of your explorations but I wouldn’t really say it’s a day out option with the kids.
Regardless, I was glad to have visited with Alex on a Friday morning when we didn’t really have much planned and seeing the beauty in the square and the surrounding area reminded me why Montreal is just such a great place.
