A while ago I interviewed Melanie Lambrick of Melanie Lambrick Illustration and fell in love with her beautiful illustrations. Her latest project is a self-published children’s book on Montreal neighbourhoods called “Raffi’s Neighbourhood Day.”
It was done in collaboration with Danielle Houstoun, an early childhood educator who interviewed kids about their neighbourhoods and then wrote the story on their descriptions.
It is just so sweet and touches on many Montreal neighbourhoods including NDG, Mile End, St-Charles, Outremont and downtown.
I love speaking to my son about our neighbourhood, his home. It’s such a special place for him – really it’s his whole world. The trees and cars, streets and houses, smelly trees (yes, Westmount has a smelly tree) and sounds are so important to them and it’s so cute to see what other neighbourhoods mean to other kids too.
You can buy the book via Etsy.
What do you think your kids would say about your neighbourhood?
