I was recently invited to experience a workshop at L’Atelier du coin de la rue in the Plateau area of Montreal and I was pretty excited because I could bring along my son! Yay!
It’s been a verrrry long winter and I was looking forward to doing a fun activity with him at this very cute shop/workshop which I’ve been meaning to check out.
What is L’Atelier du coin de la rue exactly? It’s a DIY workshop founded by Ismérie (of The Little Spot). Her friend and co-founder Florence (of Me, Myself and Montreal) has also curated a shop with all sorts of beautiful objects from independent Montreal artists.
The DIY workshops include decorative items, jewelry and accessories, as well as items from local Quebecois artists. Those attending a workshop can pick from the DIY projects currently available which are shown on a wall in the back (see above for an example of what was on when I was there.) They then provide you with the essential items to get going. I like the fact that these are all very current and modern DIY projects. It’s not stuff you make and then hide in your basement (or chalet – I seem to recall a hook rug with a mushroom theme in our family cottage!)
If DIY isn’t your thing there are plenty of beautiful items to buy from local artists. This could be anything from jewelry to lamps. The items are gorgeous, cute and creative and would make perfect gifts (for a friend… or yourself.)
The location itself is very warm and cosy and all done up in beautiful pastels. You get the feeling you could get lost in a project with a warm cup of tea.
At the back of the atelier are all sorts boxes from Me, Myself and Montreal which I am going to talk about in another post this week (stay tuned!)
The ateliers are extremely affordable (from $15 – $25) and are for both adults and kids from the ages of 3 up. My son made the airplane and was pretty into it (for a kid who isn’t so into crafting!) I really recommend you check them out – either to get your craft on or explore some great Montreal designed items.
